If you allow your cat to go outside, you know it often brings home all sorts of weird and wonderful things. You might find they've dragged scraps or food or a small animal like a bird inside your house, or in some cases, they may even surprise you by coming home pregnant after meeting another cat in the wild.
As a pet owner, it's your responsibility to ensure your pets are spayed or neutered to prevent unwanted animalpregnancies and to ensure your animal doesn't damage the local wildlife. But mistakes happen, as one cat owner recently found out; adorable pets can find ways to get around the restrictions we try to place on them.
The woman, named Cindy, posted a video on TikTok explaining she had been woken up at 2am by a noise that sounded like a "screaming kitten". But there was just one problem - she has two adult cats and no kittens.
- 'My entitled boyfriend demands I change my cat's name for ridiculous reason'
- ‘I watched woman steal my £1,500 cat - and claim she thought it was a BACKPACK'
Cindy immediately thought one of her cats had somehow had a litter she was unaware of, or they had managed to find a kitten outside somewhere and had brought it home.
So, in the middle of the night, she got out of her bed and went to find the source of the noise.
The video shows Cindy walking into her hallway, where the faint sound of a kitten meowing can be heard in the distance. As she approaches the area where her cats sleep, she checks several places before honing in on the bed where one of her cats is lying.
The cat moves out of the way, and Cindy doesn't find anything else in the bed. She then turns her camera to the welcome mat by her front door and sees the true culprit - a frog.
After swearing as the frog made her jump, Cindy picked up the amphibian, which gave another kitten-like scream in protest. The video cut off there, but Cindy likely took it outside and set it free.
She wrote in the caption of her video: "2am wake up call to the sound of a screaming kitten I don't own. Did my girls bring in another cat? I was tired and confused."
Commenters on the video were also confused, as many said they had no idea frogs could even make noises that resembled a young kitten meowing for attention.
One person said: "Was the frog making that noise? I didn't even know that was a thing."
Another questioned: "Why does it sound just like a damn kitten though?!"
A third wrote: "I was expecting a kitten, without being promised a kitten, yet I still feel scammed."
Others shared their own stories of their cats bringing home unwanted items and mysterious creatures, including one woman who said her cat brought home a giant cicada, and another who claimed her cat would "leave screaming frogs on her belly" when she was pregnant.
